The word “positive” and “negative” are not limited to mathematical problems (remember your integers?). Nor these words limited only to the charges of a battery. The positive and negative signs are also used to differentiate the two kinds of DVD CDs: DVD-R and DVD+R.

The DVD-R and the DVD+R are similar to the regular CD-R sold in stores. You can burn files in it and since it is only “R” (or recordable), you cannot rewrite whatever you have burned in the DVD CD. Both DVDs too do have 4.7 GB as their capacity. The DVD forum however, banned the DVD+R because it only competed with the original DVD-R (remember, both have same features).
