The writing speed of the recorder, the writing mode that will be used, the amount of information to be written and defect management or verification activation will be the key factors on estimating how much time will be used up to record or write onto a DVD. The recording speed is measured just the same as the actual reading speed of a DVD Rom or DVD players. A recorder writes 1.32MB of data per second at single speed or 1X. And multiple times of the figure at each speed interval above 1X.
Basing on the technological advances made in CDR and CDRW, writable and Rewritable DVD performance has developed quickly within a short span of time. Data transfer rates or DVD recording speeds are now faster than the best CDR and CDRW counterparts. Added to this, DVD recorders now use a number of modes in writing data so that it becomes more reliable and efficient within the lowest and highest speeds possible. It includes ZCLV or Zoned Constant Linear Velocity, CLV or Constant Linear Velocity and CAV or Constant Angular Velocity.
